GM Hovik Hayrapetyan wins Arsen Yeghiazaryan Memorial 2022

The Arsen Yeghiazaryan Memorial took place from 1-9 July in Yerevan, Armenia as a 10-player round-robin tournament, dedicated to the memory of GM, FST and Honored Trainer of the Republic of Armenia Arsen Yeghiazaryan. The event took place at the Tigran Petrosyan Chess House.

The largest chess piece in the world set in Sautron, France #TweetOftheDay

Simultaneously with the 20th Sautron International Chess Open which takes place from 3-10 July at the Espace Phelippes Beaulieux, the Sautron Chess Club set the largest chess piece in the world. With the size exceeding 6.30 meters in height, a diameter of 3 meters and weighing 3.8 tons, the wooden chess King was installed by a crane in Sautron, France and it unofficially broke a Guinness World Record hold by the World Chess Museum in Saint Louis.

55th Biel International Chess Festival 2022 opens tomorrow

The 55th edition of the Biel International Chess Festival opens tomorrow and will take place from 10-24 July in Biel, Switzerland, featuring more than 15 events. This year’s Biel Chess Festival will be dedicated to the memory of Peter Burri “PeBu” who was involved in the festival in various functions.

The 8th RIDEF Chess Championship concluded in Casablanca

The 8th International Francophone Chess Meetings took place from 1-9 July in Casablanca, Morocco. 125 players competed in the classical tournament, coming from 22 countries.

45th Ikaros International Chess Tournament 2022

The 45th edition of the Ikaros International Chess Tournament takes place from 9-17 July at the Greek island in the Aegean Sea – Ikaria. The event attracted more than 100 entries from 13 countries and will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 seconds increment per move (from move 1).

Poland wins IX IBCA World Team Chess Championship

IX IBCA World Team Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired took place in Ohrid, North Macedonia, from June 27 – July 08, 2022. The event was organized by the National Sports Federation of the Blind of North Macedonia in cooperation with the Chess Federation of North Macedonia.

Warsaw Chess Festival – Najdorf Memorial 2022

The 2022 Warsaw Chess Festival opens today at the Warsaw sports hall and will be held from July 8 to July 17, 2022. The Festival features Jan Maciej’s Memorial in blitz chess (scheduled for July 8) and Mieczysław Najdorf Memorial in classic chess (taking place from 9-17 July).
