Vitaly Kunin wins Norway Chess Open 2025

Vitaly Kunin is the winner of Norway Chess Open 2025. Vitaly Kunin collected 7,0/9, the same points as Lev Yankelevich and Torben Knuedel, but won on better tiebreak.

This year’s edition of Norway Chess Open brought together 190+ players from 34+ countries, including 45+ titled players across the GM and ELO groups. Held from 26 May to 1 June 2025 at IMI Forum, Stavanger, this was a week of big battles and breakout moments.

FIDE Women World Chess Cup 2025 is taking place July 5 – July 29 in Batumi, Georgia, and is one of the major events of The Chess Calendar. A total of 107 participants (increased from the initially announced 103 participants) will compete for 691 000 eur prize fund.

Serbian Individual Chess Championship 2025 LIVE

The 19th Serbian Individual Chess Championship was officially opened today in the Conference Hall of the “Ana Luks” Hotel in Pirot. The tournament’s chief arbiter, IM Igor Lukić, introduced the participants, and then, by symbolically making the first move, Jorgić and Vasić marked the beginning of the tournament, which features 10 competitors who will compete for the title of Serbian chess champion over the next 9 days.

Sam Shankland is the American Continental Chess Champion

Sam Shankland is the winner of the 2025 edition of the American Continental Chess Championship. Shankland collected 8,5/11, the same points as eight other players, but won the title on a better tiebreak. The silver medal is for Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara, the bronze is for Alexandr Fier. Alexey Sarana is the winner of Grand Prix PlusCity rapid

Yesterday Parham Maghsoodloo won Grand Prix PlusCity blitz with 2900+ performance. Today was the rapid section of the event and Alexey Sarana won clear first with 8,0/9. See the calendar of Alexey Sarana here. Baadur Jobava won yet another medal – this time it was silver – while the bronze is for Szymon Gumularz.

Top woman is Alexandra Kosteniuk, ahead of Marina Brunello and Stavroula Tsolakidou.

Happy International Children’s Day with Ding Liren

On the occasion of the International Children’s Day June 1st, Ding Liren, China’s first individual World Chess Champion, made a surprise appearance at the chess training course of “Hangzhou Branch of China Qi-Yuan” and sent holiday blessings and gifts to all the young chess children of the branch, encouraging them to keep their love and bravely pursue their dreams.

Roman Dehtiarov wins Sofia Spring Chess Tournament

The Ukrainian FM Roman Dehtiarov is the winner of the first edition of the Sofia Spring Chess Tournament. FM Roman Dehtiarov finished sole first with 7,0/9, half a point ahead of a large group of players. Second on tiebreak is the Greek FM Christos Krallis, while third is local Grandmaster Radoslav Dimitrov.

Top woman of the competition is the Canadian WGM Maili-Jade Ouellet.

Türkiye crowns junior chess champions

The Turkish Junior Chess Championship was held 17-23 May 2025 in Samsun İlkadım Chess Hall. FM Uygar Duruçay won the gold medal, the second place is for Buğra Hamza Tutmaz and third is Yüşahan Nuhoğlu. In the girls category Nur Sima Tanrıver is first, ahead of Naz Mercan Fidan and Ayşe Naz Açıkgöz finished third.
