ECU statement on the Russian Chess Federation joining the Asian Chess Federation

Following the FIDE Council’s decision concerning the proposed transfer of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) to the Asian Chess Federation (ACF), the European Chess Union published the following statement:

The WR Chess Masters super-tournament will take place from 16-25 February in Dusseldorf, Germany. WR Chess Masters – Unchanged standings after Round 6

First against second: It could have been the game that makes the outcome of the tournament completely uncertain again. Wesley So, one point behind, had to do nothing more than defeat Levon Aronian with the white pieces. Then both would have been back on level ground and the field would have been close together. But the game ended in a draw – like the other four games of the sixth round, some of them after endgame battles lasting more than six hours. The standings are unchanged after this day of draws.

European Women’s Chess Trophy

ECU Commission for Women’s Cess launched the initiative “European Women’s Chess Trophy” to reward women and girls for their results in chess.

“We inspire to support female chess players to actively take part in the solely women’s tournaments in Europe, especially in the closed (norm) ones and this way to support and promote tournaments’ organizers as well. We would like to do so by lunching “European Women’s Chess Trophy”, an initiative that will financially reward women and girls in the categories mentioned below”, writes the announcement.

International Chess Federation, Balkan Chess Federation and Albanian Chess Federation, in collaboration with Albanian Center for Openness and Dialogue, are pleased to announce the International Women’s Day Chess festival, a series of chess events to celebrate the International Women’s Day and reinforce a commitment to women’s equality.  

Levon Aronian extends his lead at WR Chess Masters 2023

Levon Aronian’s fifth-round win doesn’t mean a preliminary decision in the WR Chess Masters, but the 40-year-old is now the clear favorite to win the tournament. After his full point against Anish Giri, Aronian leads the standings with four points from five games, one ahead of Wesley So and Gukesh with three each. With his third win in the tournament, Aronian is back in the world’s top 10 (live ranking).

Cannes Chess Festival 2023 – LIVE

The Cannes International Chess Festival is taking place from 20-26 February in Cannes, France. The Open A tournament gathers 127 players, and it’s played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes until the end of the game, and increment of 30 seconds for each move, starting from move one.

G20 Hungarian Youth Championship 2023 – LIVE

The G20 Hungarian Youth Championship 2023 is tournament taking place from 20–25 February 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. Players receive 90 minutes for the entire game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. It is an 26-player round-robin with participation of Luca Karacsonyi, Eszter Sulyok, Kata Buri, Nikoletta Toth, Petra Zsuzsanna Buri, Emma Harkai, Reka Gyongyver Ivan, Stefania Sipos, Lidia Emilia Molnar, Inez Kiss, etc.
